Taierzhuang was formed in Qin and Han Dynasties, developed in Yuan Dynasty and flourished in Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal was diverted and flowed through, gradually forming a flood and drought wharf and an important business town. According to the Records of Yi County, "Tai (er) Zhuang crosses the canal, which is the north-south canal, where business travelers are attracted, and the residents are spared. As a large village, it is the first village in the world, which was granted by Emperor Gaozong (Emperor Qianlong) of the State Dynasty", showing that "merchants linger at night."
Taierzhuang is the southern gate of Shandong Province, the northern barrier of Jiangsu Province, and the thoroughfare of land and water. The Beijing-Taiwan Expressway, Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway and other golden passages pass through the territory, and it takes only 2.5 hours to get to Taierzhuang from Beijing and Shanghai by high-speed rail. It is called the "back garden" of modern cities. At the same time, Taierzhuang is located in the center of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. In 2014, it was selected as the 32nd World Cultural Heritage and the 46th World Heritage in China by virtue of its 3km ancient canal channel (moon reach), 11 ancient docks, 960m ancient revetment and canal hydraulic remains, canal affiliated remains and canal-related heritage sites.
