China, Shanghai, Xinchang ancient town tourist attractions introduction!
Xinchang ancient town, located in Pudong New Area, has a history of more than 800 years. In ancient times, it used to be a bustling salt field and salt market, and now it still retains a large number of Ming and Qing buildings. Although Xinchang is about 40 kilometers away from the urban area, compared with other ancient towns in Shanghai, it is more quiet and simple, and has not been commercialized too much. It is an ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River where you can feel the breath of life everywhere.
Xinchang ancient town is not big, and a long and narrow old street, several water lanes and small alleys have basically become the whole town. In the ancient town, by the narrow river, there are old-fashioned houses with white walls and black tiles. Walking on the stone road in the old street, stepping over the stone arch bridge carved with exquisite patterns and passing through the vicissitudes of stone archways, you can feel the charm of years everywhere.
Similar to other ancient towns, Xinchang ancient town is also indispensable for snacks, such as stinky tofu, cake collapse, Xiasha Shaomai and so on. But there are no shops all over the street, and there are no bustling crowds. Apart from snack bars and handicraft shops, you can also see quiet coffee bars, traditional barber shops and grocery stores, as well as local old people sitting by the wall reading newspapers and basking in the sun.
There are also many historic sites and attractions in the ancient town, such as the Sijin Courtyard "Zhang's Mansion" built in the late Qing Dynasty, the tea garden on the first floor built in Tongzhi period of Qing Dynasty, and the Jesus Church, Dongyue Temple, China Tongluo Drum Art Museum, Xinchang Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall and other attractions. Some of these scenic spots need to buy tickets to enter.
In fact, the popularity of Xinchang ancient town has increased in recent years, more because of the film Lust, Caution directed by Ang Lee. In the film, the scenes of Tang Wei and Wang Leehom in the teahouse and Tang Wei walking on the bridge are taken here. You can also look for the scenes in the film.
