Shaxi used to be an important post station on the ancient tea-horse road. With the decline of the ancient tea-horse road, it was gradually forgotten. But as a result, Shaxi is quieter and more quaint now, and it also better preserves the style of Chama Town. There is a saying in northwest Yunnan: Go through Dali and Lijiang, don't miss Shaxi.
tourist route
Walk past Yujin Bridge, an ancient stone bridge on the banks of Heihui River, and walk along the ancient road for about 100 meters, then you will reach Dongzhaimen, which is called "Jiezimen" by the villagers. This Zhaimen is made of adobe, and only two horses can pass at the same time, retaining the original appearance of Zhaimen on the ancient tea-horse road. Further inward, you will reach Sideng Street, which is the only surviving market on the ancient tea-horse road and the center of Shaxi ancient town. The whole street is paved with red sandstone slabs, with an ancient stage facing east and Xingjiao Temple facing east in the east. The two echo each other from a distance, dividing Sifang Street into two halves, with shops and horse shops all around the street, and three ancient lanes extending to all directions of the ancient town.
Shaxi Aspect: Xingjiao Temple
Xingjiao Temple is a major attraction of Shaxi. It is the existing "Attoli" Buddhist temple of the Bai nationality in Ming Dynasty in China. The murals and sculptures inside are worthy of careful appreciation. You can visit it for free by registering your ID card. During national festivals, the sons and daughters of the Bai nationality in the whole town are dressed in festive costumes and play the leading three strings, and gather in Sifang Street, singing and dancing on the stage. The crowds in Sifang Street are surging, and the good men and women in Xingjiao Temple worship the Buddha, which is a joy and good luck. Among them, it is very lively when the annual "February 8" prince's party is held in the lunar calendar.
Accommodation and meals
Shaxi ancient town is small, and you can visit it in just one or two hours. However, if you have enough time, it is recommended to stay here for one night, walk around the old street and enjoy the quiet and comfortable that Dali ancient town does not have.
